Frequently Asked Questions in Aquatics

Q: Do I need a membership for swim lessons?
A: Yes. All participants need to have a level of membership to take swim lessons. Youth 12 years and under may sign up for a basic program membership at a cost of $40.00 for one (1) year. This membership level is only valid for swim lessons, basketball or karate.  Adults and Teens may sign up for a full facility membership which allows access to the whole facility during operating hours.

Q: When can I lap swim?
A:   Monday thru Friday 5:30am – 9:30pm; Saturday 7:00am – 7:30pm & Sunday 8:00am – 5:30pm. Our pool is a 25 meter program based pool heated to 82-83 at all times. Lap Swim Schedule.

Q:  Can I pay a day pass fee to use the pool or take a water aerobics class?
A: We are a membership base only facility and do not offer day passes.

Q: What level should I sign up for swim lessons?
A: When it comes to picking a level, it is important to understand the prerequisites for each class. Listed in the program guide are the prerequisites and/or skills that are required for swimmers to register in that level. If you don’t think you meet those skills, try the level below.

Q: Can I take pictures during the classes of my child?
A: No photos are allowed while lessons are in progress. You may ask your instructor before or after the class to take pictures after the other participants leave the class.

Q: How will I know when my child is ready to move up to the next level?
A: Every season a child receives a progress report for their level. Once they have mastered all required skills, the child will graduate to the next level.

Q: What if my child cries or is very fearful?
A: It is normal for a child to cry during the child’s first swim lesson(s). The best thing you can do as a parent/guardian for a child is to keep bringing them to classes each week. Your consistency sends the message that you approve and trust in this activity which helps the child to reflect your feelings and overcome their fear.

Q: Do you offer any make up classes or refunds for missed classes?
A: If you are ill and cannot make it to your class, please provide the Aquatics Department with a Doctor's note and you will be issued a credit to your YMCA account. We do NOT offer any make up classes for missed class. Please see the Lesson Schedule for the Swim Lesson Refund/Credit Policy.
